No idea is silly.  Brainstorm a list of thoughts on how we can encourage staff to take a 10 minute daily walk.

 

  • We all must be the change we want to create so we all must get out and be visible walking each day :)
  • Whenever I need to change floors in the building I work, I never use the elevator. I usually try to add an extra floor by going one higher or lower than needed. It is quick, easy, vigorous, and gives me a break from other routines. It also gives me a chance to spread the word when I arrive at a meeting huffing and puffing and people ask, "What have you been doing?"

    Mary Booth:My experience with behavior change (and this is about changing our behaviors during the work day) is that it works best with a support system, especially a buddy. We are very good at this when one of us is in crisis mode and our health is suffering (i.e. cancer, stress, anxiety, etc.) but we all need to do a better job on the preventative end to keep us all in balance. We will be a Move and Improve Site again this year and SAD 11 has challenged our staff so perhaps that is the impetus for folks to get a buddy and get moving.
    Judy Moody:I find it helpful when one or more of us walks up and down the hall about noon and checks to see if people would like to join a walk.
