Here is a place to start a conversation about updating our Certification Plan (By-laws) in light of the new state statute: Chapter 118.
Maine Teacher Induction Site (You can find Chapter 118 here.)
comparison118chart.rtf (Here is the comparison chart that we agreed to examine before the next meeting.)
Question: Based on the changes noted in the chart, what questions, concerns or ideas do you have about restructuring our current plan?
1. Is there clear language as to what it means to demonstrate proficiency of the ten initial teaching standards? I know there used to be a chart used during the Aarbec time, but I wonder who determines this level of proficiency? Is it the mentor? Looks like it's a bit more evaluative than before.
2. Am I reading the chart correctly where it says this plan will only go into place if there is state funding via EPS? Is this in regards to the training cost of staff?

certbylaws[1].docCertification Plan for the District)
After reading Chapter 118 Guidance Document, please contribute to a discussion in this space as to how we could change our current practice to meet the certification needs of educators in the district.
Governance-
How could we restructure ourselves to be more efficient? How could technology play a role in that restructuring?
Meet in the fall to set up mentors and collect new plans and then meet in the spring to collect documentation and suport team reports. No winter meetings
Forms-
How could we redo our forms to reflect the new requirements?
I would like to see a form where a professional teacher identifies 4-5 goals and they would have generic strategies. It get approved in year one and then we do not hear from them again till year 4.5 when they turn all the work in. No more turning a form in every time you want to attend a conference or take a class.

Support Team to Professional Learning Communities and Mentors-
How do we provide the neccessary training and ongoing information to mentors?
How do we tie the professional learning communities to the mentoring process? Who's role is it?
Professional Renewal-
How can we tweak this process to make it more efficient?
One PRP with 4-5 goals and they would have generic strategies. they would get approved in year one and then we do not hear from them again till year 4.5 when they turn all the work in. No more turning a form in every time you want to attend a conference or take a class.
